Spiritual Development
The basis of Christian education at Sheboygan Christian School is not only that students are exposed to Bible classes, but that God is introduced in everything that they do. It is our goal that every child who comes through our school has a deep and meaningful personal relationship with Christ, and that we have prepared them to defend that relationship as they leave our care and head out into the “real world.”
Sheboygan Christian School strives to help their students grow spiritually both in and out of the classroom. Each student at SCS has the opportunity to grow and be nurtured in a b1 Group (K-8) or Advisory Group (9-12). B1 groups are made up of children from every grade level, 5k to 8th grade, and are led by 8th grade students, following the theme of 1 Corinthians 12:12, “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” Advisory Groups are made up of students from every grade level, 9th grade to 12th grade, and are led by a teacher advisor. The community groups promote school unity, combat bullying, and build student leaders who are community minded, by bringing various ages together each week to encourage one another, pray for each other, and join in common tasks and community service.
The chapel programs at SCS are designed to engage the student body and lead them to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Students have the opportunity to soak up truth as well as express their hearts to God and each other through inspirational music, teaching, Scripture reading, and prayer. Our elementary students meet for chapel weekly while our high school students meet for chapel two mornings per week. At the high school level, the first chapel each week is entirely student-led by our chapel committee and praise band. During the second, we welcome guest speakers who challenge, encourage, and equip our students for kingdom service. By addressing relevant issues encountered in today’s world through the lens of God’s Word, we strive to develop our students into mature followers of Christ.
All high school students are asked to keep a Bible portfolio of projects that illustrate their attempts to see the world in a uniquely Christian way. These projects are taken from all areas of curriculum, and while some may be based around a classroom assignment, many are not. To receive credit each year, students must select seven projects that demonstrate a distinctly Christian approach in four areas of learning: knowledge, analysis, creativity, and service (20 hours of community based service). Similarly, middle school students have opportunities to seek out and develop projects for service and missions. The basis of Christian education at Sheboygan Christian School is not only that students are exposed to Bible classes, but that God is introduced in everything that they do.
