SCS Senior Ezra Doornbos Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

Sheboygan Christian School is pleased to share that senior Ezra Doornbos has been named a Semifinalist in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced Semifinalists on September 9, 2026. We are grateful for Ezra’s diligence, the gifts God has given him, and the teachers and family who have encouraged his growth.

What is the National Merit Scholarship Program?

• Each year, over 1.2 million juniors in about 20,000 high schools enter the competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT, which serves as an initial screen.
• The nationwide pool of Semifinalists includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state and represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.
• About 16,000 students are named Semifinalists. They compete for approximately 6,700 scholarships worth about $24 million to be awarded next spring.

What comes next for Ezra?

• He has the opportunity to become a National Merit Scholarship finalist in February
• More than 15,000 Semifinalists are expected to become Finalists in February. Scholarship winners will be announced from April through July 2027. Historically, about 95 percent of Semifinalists advance to Finalist, and about half of Finalists receive a Merit Scholarship.
