Jos. Schmitt Construction Funds $60,000 High School Student Coffee Shop!
As part of the ongoing Phase 3 building addition at Sheboygan Christian School, the entire cafeteria footprint is scheduled for a remodel. This meant that the Blessed Bean, a high school student-run coffee shop, will be demolished.
So high school business students started planning for a brand new Blessed Bean. Based on years of experience in the shop, they knew what they wanted. Unfortunately, that dream proved to be pricy. When the full vision of this space was tabulated, the dream carried a hefty price tag: $55,000. This was far too big of a financial hurdle for the fledgling business, so the students were introduced to a new phrase: “Value engineering.”
Enter Jos. Schmitt Construction. Sheboygan Christian Schools’ construction partner for three building projects in the last five years, Jos. Schmitt’s team didn’t like the idea of this thriving business program slashing their dream. So a team from Jos. Schmitt Construction recently visited the Blessed Bean business class and surprised them with a check for $60,000! The students, teachers, and administrators were blown away- not only covering the students’ dream set-up, but allowing them to set a bigger vision!
The Blessed Bean was started by business teacher Amanda Hildebrand. After a market survey of students, faculty, and staff, the Blessed Bean kicked off operation in 2022 as a coffee cart. After proven success their first semester, the student team worked with the high school shop program to build a more permanent coffee stand. That stand has been operating out of a corner in the cafeteria ever since. The Blessed Bean donates 10% of proceeds to a collection of local charities.
Thank you to our friends and partners at Jos. Schmitt for your incredible generosity and for making this student dream a reality!
