SHINE! From the Desk of Head of School Ann Steenwyk

SCS Families and Friends,

We have had a phenomenal start to the 22-23 school year. We are sensing a heightened level of positivity and energy that can only be attributed to God’s work in our school. I can’t think of a better place to be each day! I am eager to see what He has in store next as we consider ways we can prepare our students’ hearts and minds for service in God’s world.

This year our theme is “SHINE,” based on Philippians 2:15b-16a:

become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.”

2022-2023 School Theme

I think we can all agree that the sin and darkness of this world, at this time, can sometimes feel overwhelming. This is why we need to proclaim God’s light to our students and the world, so that we can reflect His light in the darkness.

At SCS, we take this work seriously and integrate God’s Word into all we do. We know that if our students are regularly in the Word and hearing the Word, their light will shine more brightly, and they will have a bright and clear path for how they should walk. When Isaiah was prophesying to Jerusalem, he reminded God’s people of who God is and how they should seek Him:

How gracious He will be when you cry for help! As soon as He hears, He will answer you. Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:19-21

In this time of ever present adversity and affliction, SCS’s teachers are daily speaking into the ears of our students: “This is the way; walk in it.” As educators who have them for only 8 hours each day, we covet your partnership in this work. Are you also at home, at church, at event sidelines using your voices to remind our students: “This is the way; walk in it?”

Thank you for your partnership as we seek to be a community who shines brightly God’s light. If you would like to become more involved in the partnership, please join us. We have many roles for you to be a part of the work.

Shining For Him,
Ann Steenwyk, Head of School
