SCS Fall Play | Myth Adventures: Five Greek Classics

In this play Dionysus guides you through five classics from Greek mythology: King Midas, Orpheus, Echo and Narcissus, Daedalus and Icarus, Theseus and the Minotuar. It encourages you to think about what you would do if placed in similar situations: Would you wish for an endless supply of gold? Or, risk everything to save the love of your life from the underworld? Could you keep a god distracted to cover for a friend and take on a horrible punishment? Is escaping a life of captivity worth the danger to your family? When faced with a difficult situation are you willing to sacrifice yourself for others or walk away allowing others to suffer?

As Christians we have a worldview that allows us to hope for redemption and restoration to the world. These Greek stories come from a time and place where the people didn’t have that hope or an understanding of a loving God. The stories explore themes and situations where gods act like humans and make human mistakes, but we know that’s not how the one true God acts. It gives us a taste of just how sad and finite our lives would be without the knowledge of and saving Grace of Christ.
