Sheboygan Christian School Opens Up to New Year, New Building and Record Enrollment!

In the culmination of years of planning, praying, fundraising, volunteering, and navigating through over a year of school amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheboygan Christian School opened its doors today in historic fashion.

A brand new, beautiful building at 929 Greenfield Avenue greeted SCS students this morning. The building represents Sheboygan County’s first ever unified P-12 Christian School campus. The $6.7MM building project (40,000 square feet) nearly doubled the existing 48,000 square foot footprint of the former Sheboygan County Christian High School Campus.

The school broke ground on the “Building Hearts and Minds” project during last school year, and crews have been hard at work straight through to complete the project in time for the start the 2021-2022 school year.

Record Enrollment

It is clear that Sheboygan area families are responding to the mission, vision, and core values that are taught at Sheboygan Christian School. Prospective families have responded to the school’s new project with record interest.

As Sheboygan County’s first ever P-12 Christian School, SCS has experienced massive enrollment growth over the past few years, but things really spiked to the next level for the fall of 2021. When Head of School Ann Steenwyk took over the newly unified P-12 school system that was operating on two separate campuses in 2015, total P-12 enrollment was 231 students. That number had grown to 306 students at the start of school last fall. Today, upon opening of the brand new campus, SCS enrollment is 417 students- a number that represents 36% growth! 417 students also represents 34 more students than the previous combined enrollment high of Sheboygan Christian School and Sheboygan County Christian High School at 383 students in the early 2000’s.

God has truly blessed our school community beyond what we could ever ask or imagine.”

SCS is now building a sustainable enrollment with two classroom sections for each elementary P-8 grade level. A number of these grades already have waitlists for enrollment. High School Highlights

Goodbye Geele

SCS will be selling the Geele campus. All proceeds from the sale will contribute directly to the capital campaign funding the building project. We have been operating school on that campus consecutively since 1911. While we are certainly excited for the new space, we also look back and reflect on God’s faithful provision to our school community at the northside Geele campus for over a century. In fact, we’re taking a little piece of history with us; the school’s original 1911 cornerstone- Psalm 22:31, engraved in Dutch by the Dutch immigrants who founded our community- onto the newly unified campus. It will serve as a permanent reminder to our school’s history and values that have been a part of our community’s DNA since our founding. The dutch words have proven to be prophetic- translated as “The Seed Will Serve Him,” our founding families’ chief desire was that, for generations to come, the SCS community would continue to serve the Lord. We are proud that this generation gets to be a part of that legacy of faith.

We are planning a celebration honoring our community and our former home when we say Goodbye to the Geele campus later this school year.

“God has truly blessed our school community beyond what we could ever ask or imagine,” said SCS Head of School, Ann Steenwyk. “We have been praying for and dreaming about a unified P-12 Christian School campus for so many years, the fact that our first day is finally here- the feeling is almost indescribable. To see the smiling faces of our students and parents as they walk into our building for the first time is easily one of the top moments of my professional life. This community is all about a partnership between the school and our Christian community. Our building is finally starting to match the incredible education that SCS teachers proved to our partner parents.”
