If I Could Be a Fly On the Wall…
Dear Parents and Friends of SCS,
Friday, I left the building energized, rather than tired. Granted, we just had break, but ultimately I left energized because I was so excited about all the amazing things I experienced with your children the days prior. Really great learning is happening all over the place! Here are some of the things I have had the privilege of witnessing just within the last two weeks:
- 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders presenting their persuasive essays to me about why we need more graphic novels in our libraries. Their ideas were creative, logical, truly legitimate, and really persuasive. I just can’t say no. They’ll get to help me select which ones to purchase.
- During Discovery Term, our high school students and a couple of community members made an 8 foot long table out of repurposed barn board. It’s beautiful, and new relationships were also built.
- A couple of our high school students built a low cost contraption to assist a double amputee get dressed independently. Creative and impressive. Go to www.faithbaseded.org to take a look at the featured story, pictures, and course objectives.
- In the last b1 activity, I witnessed tall 8th graders holding the tiny hands of kindergartners, multi-grade level students problem solving, and lots of laughing.
- A bunch of our high school students and a community members designed and built an aquaponics system. Not sure what that is? Come to our high school lab to check it out.
- I got to “debrief” with our Atlanta Service Trip students and heard them talk about praying with the homeless and brainstorm next steps in ministering to needs in Sheboygan.
- I walked around during break time and listened to students carrying on their theological debates outside of the classroom. Yes, during their break!
- I watched kindergarten students estimating numbers of objects and doing subtraction problems with proficiency.
- I read through all of the reports from Mr. V’s “Five Dollar Challenge” project. Wow. You’ll get a glimpse of one project in the next Flyer, but you’ll likely see the impact all over the city. These kids raised significant money for great causes.
- Today, our preschoolers were painting with power tools for their focus on the letter “P.”
Don’t you wish you had my job, so you could see all of this first hand? Your children get to be a part of unique and meaningful learning experiences, thanks to the facilitation of dedicated, passionate, Christ-centered teachers who do all of this because they love your children. We are so fortunate to have these opportunities for our children. Please don’t take it for granted. Please spread the word about it. If you want more evidence, come in and visit. You won’t be disappointed.
