1st Graders Act as Justice Advocators for Animals
1st grade is busy at work raising money for the Sheboygan Humane Society. Why? Inspired by Teaching for Transformation, which aims to connect students with real people, real problems and real work, SCS 1st graders are acting as justice advocators for animals who deserve loving homes in our community.
1st Grade Persuasive Writing Unit
Real Needs: Abandoned, abused, and homeless animals in our community need our help. These animals deserve loving homes as a part of God’s creation.
Real People: We, the first grade class, can bring awareness to the animal population in need, provide supplies to the Sheboygan Humane Society, and give support to its workers.
Real Work: Students are writing about homeless animals up for adoption from the Sheboygan Humane Society to post on their cages for attention. See Dawson Mahler’s letter to the left.
The students didn’t want to stop here though. They have big ideas and need your help!
How can you help?
- Purchase goods at their bake sale on Wednesday, May 4! During lunch time on Wednesday, the 1st graders will be hosting a bake sale with all proceeds going to the Sheboygan Humane Society.
- Donate Amazon Wish List items! Scan the QR code below or click here for items the SHS needs. All packages will be sent to school. We will bring them to SHS.
