SCS Stories: Hawver Family

What do you love about Sheboygan Christian School?
I love that it feels like a family. Having a Christ-centered school that focuses on each student needs has been a huge blessing for us!

Why did you choose Sheboygan Christian School for your children?
The decision came to be when my son was in 2nd grade (now in 9th). I felt he was getting “lost” in the public school system, and he was struggling with academics and making friends. I also knew that he would need a strong Christian influence and to learn discipline when it came to studying the Bible. As a single mom, it was important to me that he learned balance in the areas I lacked. It has proved to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

In what ways have you seen your children grow in their faith as a result of their experience at SCS?
Cameron has grown in his knowledge of the Bible and truly comprehends biblical principles. Having that consistency has made a difference in how he handles different situations at home and with friends. He also has shown leadership skills, has a heart for serving others, and participates in discussions and praying aloud. These are things that some adults have not yet mastered.

In what ways have you seen your children grow academically as a result of their experience at SCS?
Because of the smaller class sizes and the amazing staff Cameron has had the attention he needs to succeed academically. Most importantly he has been encouraged to “Think Big” for his future and has aspirations of becoming an engineer. I don’t think that would have happened if he was not at SCS.

One of our key values is partnership. How does SCS partner with your family to raise and educate your children?
The staff at SCS is tremendous. They are the most understanding and accommodating people I’ve ever known. They really got to know our family and did everything they could to help me out! Whether it was supporting me while I was in school or understanding my situation while I was working three jobs and wasn’t able to volunteer that often, they never judged me and ALWAYS took care of Cam as if he was their own. Knowing he had people who cared about him watching over him set my mind at ease, so I could focus on building a better life for us! I am forever grateful!

What sets SCS apart from other schools?
They encourage each student to be their best self academically, physically, mentally, AND SPIRITUALLY. Students are educated from both a world view and biblical truth. SCS cares about students and it feels like family. Throughout the pandemic of Covid-19 it has never been more apparent on how LUCKY we are to have SCS! Teachers have proved they will do whatever they can to help students succeed!

What would you say to a prospective family considering enrollment at Sheboygan Christian School?
I would encourage them to look at how profoundly the “pros” outweigh the “cons”. I would tell them that they can trust SCS with their child’s academic, social, and spiritual success. While each family’s experience may be different and each child is different there is one thing I am 100% confident in and that is that the staff of Sheboygan Christian School cares about each and every student.
