What do you get when you mix 44 students and 5 teachers for two days at Skylodge Christian Camp? Lots and lots of fun and fellowship! Some may ask if the students learned any thing or did they just have fun?
Mr. Navis led us in evening devotions around thecampfire, and reminded us of how God delights in His creation. We witnessed the same countless stars in the sky as did Abraham in the scriptures. We were also able to delight in mushrooms and fungi of different shapes, colors, and hues.
Students were able to witness diversity in grasses, trees, flowers, bushes, and even microscopic creatures. God’s creation is as large as the universe and as small as a microscopic paramecium!
One of the teacher’s main goals was to provide an outdoor opportunity for students to develop friendships and support groups. Teachers were desirous of developing a sense of community and family. Scripture talks about the church being the body of Christ. It is one thing to talk about it, and another thing to be immersed in it for two days and two long bus rides.
Students were able to experience the joys of horse backing riding, canoeing, archery, nature and water study. Free time allowed students the opportunity to play carpet ball, defeat Mrs. Leo at ping pong or Mr. Van Drunen at tether ball. Some students spent time going in circles on the merry-go-round. Miniature golf, tennis, beach volleyball, and ultimate frisbee delighted all who participated. We praise God for safety in travel, the opportunity to experience God’s world up close, and the formation of newfriendships. Our God is an awesome God!
