A Band Enrichment Opportunity
I would like to invite you to consider an opportunity for musical enrichment this summer.
If you have a child in band, you have devoted time and resources to developing a love and competency in music for your child. You also recognize that playing any band instrument takes practice. While practicing during the school year is difficult enough, the summer can make practicing seem like an impossible chore. Consequently, children often do not practice at all over the summer. As well as halting the musical ability of the child, there are other negative effects to not practicing. Any wind instrument takes facial muscle control. If the summer brings little or no practice, these muscles will need to be retrained. Not only are there physical drawbacks to not practicing, there is also a tendency to forget rhythm, fingerings and positions.
In order to improve skill retention over the summer, Sheboygan Christian School would like to offer a summer band program in the gymnasium at SCS. The only requirement is that the participants have one year of instruction prior to attending the camp.
Here is the structure of the program:
- A two week (Monday- Thursday) summer band program beginning Monday, August 4.
- The goal of a summer band program would be to use our God-given talents, get in shape to play again, learn some new music, have some fun, and play a short concert at the end of the program.
At this time I would like to ask you to consider having your child participate in summer band. There would be a $20 fee for this program. If you are interested in joining the summer band program to retain skills, please fill out the entry form below and submit the form. It will be emailed to the school office and you will you will be contacted with more details.
